This is part of a long string of abuse going back to January 2015, involving users repeatedly adding a software package called OPNsense to the List of router and firewall distributions (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs). The unspoken rule here is that only software with a Wikipedia article should be added, so that we don't get an influx of non-notable entries. OPNsense does not have a page (although it was created multiple times, even after an AfD discussion). There are many more accounts involved in this (around 20 users and IPs in total), but many of them are stale so I didn't think it would be worth listing them here. The users above are only those with edits in the last two months; a full list can be found here.
Diffs:
- 27/11/16 - TimoTw adds OPNsense
- 13/4/17 - TimoTw defends OPNsense on his talk page
- 21/4/17 - Catsem's first edit is to add a level 4 vandalism warning to Mr.hmm's talk page re his removal of OPNsense.
- 21/4/17 - Catsem adds OPNsense
- 23/4/17 - Mrdonley adds OPNsense
- 24/4/17 - Catsem improperly reports Mr.hmm for vandalism
- 24/4/17 - Catsem adds OPNsense
- 30/5/17 - FrankyFire, an SPA, defends OPNsense on the article's talk page
- 31/5/17 - Peter.dolkens's first edit is to add OPNsense
- 31/5/17 - Peter.dolkens gives Mr.hmm a bogus warning for edit warring — Quasar G. 13:53, 1 June 2017 (UTC)

Account's first and only edit was to add OPNsense to the list of router and firewall distributions (consistent with previous pattern of abuse) two weeks after three months of protection expired. — Quasar G. 16:04, 18 October 2017 (UTC)

[edit]This case is being reviewed by Sir Sputnik as part of the clerk training process. Please allow them to process the entire case without interference, and pose any questions or concerns either on their Talk page or on this page if more appropriate.
On hold - Pending procedural questions. Sir Sputnik (talk) 16:17, 24 October 2017 (UTC)
Awaiting administrative action - The use of throwaway accounts for this purpose seems to be a phenomenon. The CU result in the last report in this case, and some off-wiki evidence lead me to believe that meatpuppetry is a distinct possibility here. However, there isn't a whole lot to go on with this particular account, and if it is a meatpuppet it's unlikely to ever edit again, so a block is unlikely to be useful here. That being said, re-enabling semi-protection on list of router and firewall distributions is probably a good idea. Sir Sputnik (talk) 15:51, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
